Honda has a long history in the development of motorized vehicles. In the beginning, Honda was known for their production of motorcycles. However, they eventually decided to diversify and delve into the production of automobiles as well. In 1973, Honda landed on the car screen when it revealed to the world its Honda Civic. This vehicle was quite revolutionary in a sense. It was a smaller vehicle, measuring only 139.8 inches in length, but inside provide a great deal of space. Continuing its theme of efficiency, the Honda Civic also offered drivers good gas mileage without compromising its speed.

Initially, Honda had made two models of the Civic which included a hatchback and a sedan. While these were relatively similar, they did differ in some ways. The sedan’s back part was extended. This permitted easier access to the trunk. In 1995, the Civic underwent another major change when it featured a control vortex combustion chamber also known as CVCC. This new addition made emissions from the car much cleaner. It also made it possible to use fuel other than unleaded.

From 1980 to 1983, the Civic went under significant changes to its design as it became much more attractive. What this did was help increase demand for the Honda Civic as both a new and used card. Overall, the Honda Civic’s first seven generations featured conservative designs for the car. Each generation featured models with some similarities. The 8th generation deviated significantly from this by going with a sleeker design.

Over the years, the Honda Civic has been a popular car. Many people have purchased the vehicle. This means that as they replace their Civic with another vehicle, the number of used Civics has been steady. This has been beneficial for many who prefer to obtain a used Honda Civic.

If you are looking for a honda civic for sale try visiting www.motors.co.uk they have plenty for sale and if you are a fan of the older models you might be in luck.

NA2 Honda NSX Type-R (2002 – 2005)

A second iteration of the Type-R dubbed NSX-R was released in 2002, again exclusively in Japan. The NSX-R has a more aggressive rear spoiler and hood vent, along with various refinements to reduce weight to 1270 kg (2800 lb). The rear spoiler was said to be the largest one-piece carbon-fibre spoiler in production cars. Under the body, panels and air fences in the front along with a small rear diffuser serve to produce balanced “negative lift” or downforce. The subtle changes along with its renowned handling have kept NSX-R competitive on the track even against considerably higher-powered cars.

A more agile, more responsive, and quicker limited edition NSX called the NSX-R GT was later released. This model was limited to a production run of five cars. This NSX was created to help Honda comply with the Super GT production-based race car homologation requirements. It is easily identifiable by the non-functional snorkel attached to the roof of the car (the snorkel is fully functional in the Super GT race cars), lower and widened body, and more aggressive aerodynamic components.

NA1 Honda NSX Type-R (1992 - 1994)

Beginning in 1992 Honda produced a limited number of 483 NSX Type R’s exclusively for the Japanese domestic market. Major changes include a blueprinted engine producing 280 bhp (209 kW) in stock form, a different final ratio for the gearbox, a more aggressive suspension and an extensive weight reduction to 1230 kg (2712 lb) from 1350 kg (2976 lb). The NSX-R was very track oriented as it lacked sound deadening, audio and air conditioning in an effort to reduce weight. However, these items were available for a hefty premium as optional items. Production ended in 1994.

DC5 Honda Integra Type-R (2001 -)

The fourth generation Integra, produced from 2001 on, was renamed the Acura RSX for the United States, Canada and Hong Kong in accordance with Acura’s new alphabetical naming scheme. It also had an entirely new engine, the K-series. The Integra came in two models in the United States, the RSX base model, and the RSX-S boasting the K20A2 engine from 2002 to 2004, while the 2005 and 2006 RSX-S came with a K20Z1. The RSX was still sold as a Honda Integra in Japan and Australia, markets where Acura did not exist.

In March 2006, Honda announced that the Integra would be discontinued in June after its final 300 cars were sold, due to the shrinkage of the coupe market. The reaction of the consumers towards the discontinuation, however, forced Honda to extend production until July 2006 and produce 150 more Integras. The Acura RSX was discontinued as well, as the RSX did not fit within the confines of Acura’s re-structured market strategy, and that the introduction of the similarly powerful and less expensive 2006 model-year Honda Civic Si was there to fill in the gap left by the RSX. The Civic-based Acura CSX was also produced in Canada.

DC2 Honda Integra Type-R (1995 - 2000)

The DC5 Honda Integra Type R never made it to the UK officially. Launched shortly after the EP3 Civic Type R Honda felt there wasn’t room for both, and if forum opinion was to go by, many would have gone for the new ITR over the tamer Civic.

For many the DC2 Integra Type R was and still is the definitive Type R, so the DC5 had a lot to live up to. Featuring chunkier styling, increased power and an increased capacity, increased chassis rigidity, more positive steering, improved grip and better brakes.

The most controversial change is the engine. Gone is the hard edged 1.8 litre B18C VTEC engine, and in it’s place sits Honda’s more refined 2-litre i-VTEC unit. The K20A engine combines VTEC’s variable valve lift with continuously variable intake cam timing – advancing and retarding the intake cam over 50 degrees to produce 217bhp. Torque is up 21lb ft from the old B18C engine to 152lb ft with considerably flatter power and torque curves. The high lift cams kick in at 6000rpm pulling hard to the limiter at 8400rpm. The well weighted six-speed gearbox provides a short throw ensuring a swift change within the power band applying the power via the LSD.

Huge improvements have been made in the structural rigidity coupled with stiffer suspension improving both road and track performance. Infact it would be rude not to take the Integra Type R out on track seeing as the roof line is now 60mm taller to accommodate the use of a helmet. Unlike it’s K20A cousin, the Civic Type R, the Integra is equipped with traditional mechanical power steering increasing feel throughout the 2.6 turns lock to lock. The wheels are now 17 inch items to help clear the front 300mm vented discs clamped by Brembo four-pot calipers. Each brake assembly saves 2.3kg but overall the DC5 Integra Type R gained 72kg due to the larger engine and increased crash structures.

As with any JDM built Type R the interior of the Integra is finished with Recaro seats and Momo steering wheel. Yes it might be a little larger, and a little more refined than the out going and dare I say classic DC2, but if you’re looking for the best new Type R available the Integra is the one to go for.

FD2 Civic Type-R (2007 -) (Japanese market only)

The Japanese market Civic Type R (FD2) went on sale on March 30, 2007. For the first time, the JDM Civic was sold as a four door sedan rather than a three door hatchback. The new Japanese model’s engine output is higher than the European version’s, with 222bhp (225 PS) being developed at 8,400 rpm and 159 lb (72 kg) ft (215 NM) of torque peaking at 6,100rpm (versus 198 bhp (148 kW) at 7,800 rpm and 142 lb (64 kg) ft at 5,600 rpm for the European model). Drive is fed through a close ratio six speed gearbox, and a limited slip differential is fitted as standard. The front brake discs are fitted with four pot Brembo calipers, and the car runs on 225/40 R18 Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres.

A Type R aero kit and trademark black and red bucket seats complete the package.

Honda claims the body is 50% more rigid than the previous Japan-only Integra Type R, and the new model features an independent rear suspension rather than the torsion beam configuration used on the latest European Civic Type-R. To save weight, aluminum is used extensively and bonded with adhesive instead of welded.

In back to back tests the FD2 Type-R was on average 1 second quicker than the (DC5) Integra Type-R at the Tsukuba Circuit and 4 seconds faster at Suzuka.

In a back to back test on the UK TV program 5th Gear, the FD2 Type-R was 3 seconds quicker than the equivilient FN2 UK version around Castle Combe Circuit in the wet.

The FD2 Civic Type R was officially launched in the Malaysian market on August the 2nd 2007. It was the first time that any Type R JDM model was launched outside of Japan.

In addition to Civic Type R, 300 Honda Civic Mugen RR cars had also been produced for Japanese market, which reduced weight to 1255kg (2733 lbs), while the engine is rated 177kW (240 PS) at 8,000 rpm and 218Nm (22.2kgm/160 lb-ft) torque at 7,000 rpm. This version cost 4,777,500 yen ($38,750 USD).

Mugen also debuted Civic Type-RR Experimental Spec concept car in Tokyo Auto Salon, which features 2157cc K20A engine rated 260 hp and 173 lb.-ft. of torque. Weight is further reduced using aluminum hood (4.6 kg), as well as the new titanium exhaust system (7.6 kg). Interior was replaced with more carbon fibre parts. The car also features Intelligent-Tire Condition Monitoring System (i-TCMS) and Recaro Seats.

FN2 Civic Type-R (2007 -)

The European market Civic Type R is offered only as a three door hatch back and uses a different chassis and internal layout (notably tank placement below the driver’s seat), which will serve as base for the next European Jazz. The rear suspension formerly a double wishbone set up has been changed to a less complex torsion beam axle. The drive train is largely the same as the out going model offering 198 bhp (148 kW) at 7,800 rpm and 142 lb (64 kg) ft of torque at 5,600 rpm. It runs on 225/40 R18 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres.

The new European Civic Type R has, despite some negative reviews – most notably from Jeremy Clarkson, been acclaimed in the motoring press with Top Gear Magazine awarding the European Civic Type R its ‘Hot Hatch of 2007′, praising the car’s controls and comparing it favourably as a driver’s car to its rivals.

The car has met with criticism from Evo Magazine, however, who complained that it falls short dynamically when compared to rivals like the European market Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTi particularly in the areas of steering and chassis balance, although the magazine has praised the improved steering feel and more evenly distributed torque of the FN2 compared to the previous EP3.

Nonetheless, the FN2 has outsold the Focus ST and Golf GTI during its first year of availability.
